Carry Through
Carry Through transforms a pair of vintage French chore pants in black moleskin with repairs unlike any I had seen before. In more than a decade of collecting, I had never come across mending this extensive on black moleskin.
I used that cloth to make the bag, bringing together moleskin patchwork in a range of faded black and brown patinas and leaving the unfinished edges visible. All of the outer stitches are sewn by my hand.
The body measures 15" wide × 16.5" long. The adjustable strap has rings and varies from an 18" to 22" drop, measured from the top middle of the strap to the body of the bag.
Inside, I lined it with vintage Japanese black and dark brown fabric dyed with sumi ink, also known as sumizome, and added one large pocket. The strap is finished with a solid copper buckle and strap rings in a gunmetal blue patina.
It has a substantial feel, with two outer layers of moleskin, two inner layers of canvas in between, and two inner layers of vintage Japanese fabric.
This is a special piece.
