Continuance Series

I made Steps from antique Japanese books I’ve been collecting over time. I’ve always loved the covers, especially the different shades of faded blue and teal. The writing and small marks on them draw me in, and I’m always especially happy when I find one with a drawing. In this piece, there’s a Japanese face peeking out from the lower left side.

I made Rise from antique Japanese books I’ve been collecting over the years. I’m drawn to the covers, which carry writing, marks, and signs of wear from the people who owned them before. One of the books in this piece even has a small drawing on it, which I always love to find.

On and On is made from antique Japanese books. What excites me most about this piece is the range of detail across the covers. As you look around, you start to notice the details. There are stamps of geese and a small bird, remnants of a child’s stickers, a hand-drawn face, handwriting, and bits of arabesque, floral, and wave patterns.

Earth Fan is made from antique Japanese books. What drew me in were the brown tones and the many details across the covers. There are stamps of a goose, a small drawing of an unusually shaped head, part of a water lily, plaids, stripes, handwriting, and other marks left by the people who used these books before.
