Echoes

Echoes

Echoes leans on the chrysanthemum pattern from start to finish. I made it from beautifully faded antique Japanese indigo katazome fabric, with mums on both sides. In Japanese culture, chrysanthemums are associated with longevity and rejuvenation, which gives the piece another layer for me.

There are seven small hand-repaired areas with sashiko stitching worked into the fabric.

With the insert, the pillow measures 10" high × 22" wide. The cover itself is the same size, and I use a 14" × 26" feather insert with a 100% cotton cover.

I backed the antique exterior fabric with new heavyweight cotton canvas for reinforcement, finished the inside edges with overlocking stitches for durability, and hid the zipper in the seam for easy removal.
