Check the Script
Acquired
Check the Script uses one of my favorite Japanese textiles I’ve collected over the years. It’s an antique indigo katazome with a very rare checkered pattern, and I still think about the precision it would have taken to apply paste to every one of those white checks.
There are thirteen checks with sashiko-stitched repairs, which only make me appreciate the fabric more.
The cover measures 11" high × 22" wide. With the 14" × 26" feather insert, it settles into a depth of about 4". The insert has a cotton cover and 100% feather fill.
I backed the antique exterior fabric with new heavyweight cotton canvas for reinforcement, finished the inside edges with overlocking stitches for durability, and hid the zipper in the seam for easy removal.
