Steadfast

Acquired
Steadfast

Steadfast takes a very well-worn, beautifully faded antique pair of Japanese monpe pants and carries them into a reversible indigo cotton scarf.

As you move from one side to the other, you keep finding more in the cloth. There is extensive original sashiko stitching, more sashiko added by me, striped fabric showing through from underneath, along with patches and repairs. The raw ends are secured with two rows of horizontal sashiko stitching.

There’s also a pinkish staining in the fabric that adds to its distressed character.

It measures 60" × 8.25".
