Blue Moon

Blue Moon has a floral pattern that feels very settled and direct. I made it from antique Japanese katazome fabric dyed in indigo, and I kept the focus on that surface.

There is a single hand-sewn patch, and I backed the fabric with canvas for reinforcement. It closes with a hidden zipper so the insert can be removed easily.

The pillow measures 23.5" × 11.5" and comes with a feather insert.

Into the Blue came together in my Brooklyn studio from antique Japanese cotton fabrics dating to the late 1800s and early 1900s, including katazome resist-dyed indigo and bengala iron oxide-dyed cloth.

Scripted is made from beautifully faded antique Japanese tsutsugaki fabric from the early 1900s. What gives this piece its character is the Japanese script across the surface.
