Double Duty
Double Duty is made from French work pants, likely dating to the 1930s or 1940s, in grey and black striped cotton coutil. The fabric is heavily darned and repaired from years of wear. I kept those original repairs visible and added some of my own where the fabric had worn through or needed more support.
Part of the original knit lining remains on one side of the scarf, which gives it a little extra warmth and coziness. It’s an unusual detail that I haven’t come across before in this kind of French workwear, so I wanted to keep it intact.
The scarf is fully hand sewn. I left the seams and edges raw, with stitching along the edges to keep the fraying in check. It measures 8" × 84".
